Losing a loved one can be very difficult and at a time when one least wants to turn to matters of business it becomes essential to do so almost immediately. Assets are often the only remaining legacy of the deceased and their security is imperative where it is not uncommon for disputes to arise as to their distribution.

Our probate department is headed by Mr Nicholas Downie who has over 25 years experience and offers a friendly and personal service.

Our Specialist Areas are as follows:-

Drafting and Updating Wills
Enduring Powers of Attorney
Administering Estates on Death

Drafting and Updating Wills

If you are unsure whether you should consider making a Will remember that there is no 'right' time to 'plan' or 'be prepared' for the future.

Our service includes full advice and step-by-step guidance on how best to organise, manage and protect your assets. We offer clients a continuing service, which means that by storing your Will we make it even simpler for you to make adjustments in changing circumstances.

Enduring Powers of Attorney

By creating an Enduring Power of Attorney you ensure that your affairs can be managed in your absence by the person(s) appointed by you. Powers of Attorney are versatile and can be specifically worded to come in to effect at a particular time or be limited to a particular asset or event and cease on completion in accordance with your instructions. An Enduring Power of Attorney is a slightly more flexible type of Power of Attorney in that it enables those appointed as your Attorney to continue to act in the event that you become mentally ill.

Administering Estate on Death

Administering an estate can be a very daunting and complex task involving all aspects of asset management, settling debts and liabilities, including Income Tax liabilities and Inheritance Tax, before distributing the estate to the beneficiaries.

Because an administrator can become personally liable if the estate is not correctly administered we strongly recommend that you seek professional advice.
